April 10-13

Hello Families!

Here's a sneak peek at our short week:
During Writers' Workshop we've been busy writing narrative fiction stories about our made-up characters. Your writers are doing such an amazing job! On Thursday we created a paper doll cut-out of our main characters to assist us with planning our stories, thinking of and writing dialogue in the coming weeks. I'll post some photos of our authors with their characters next week!

We focused on "sparkle" words and know that sometimes we have to be really brave when we spell them! Trying it three ways is a STUPENDOUS strategy!

James Howe is the author of the Pinky & Rex books. He is one of our mentor authors. We read this book and learned a bit about how he comes up with ideas for his books. We found out that he uses his own life and experiences for ideas just like Cynthia Rylant does!

Here's what we've been learning during Readers' Workshop:

We created a tool to help us with our retelling. Ask your reader how s/he uses it.

Ask your reader to tell you why we were all looking out the windows and drawing what we saw!

We've been continuing our learning about data organizing, sorting and graphing this past week in Math Workshop.

In Science, we observed our stem cuttings. Ask your scientist how his/her stem cutting has changed over the past 7 weeks.

I hope you all enjoy the long holiday weekend!
